Craigslist: Please Disclose if You're Asian

So, as you know, Matthew and I are headed to North Carolina sometime in January for about a year while he completes his clinical requirements. Due to this upcoming move, I've been scouring the internet for housing options. Craigslist, of course, has been a rather interesting resource. As I was perusing the listings from today, I stumbled across this little gem:

Sounds fairly normal, right? Well, sort of. Here's my question: Why is it relevant to disclose that the roommate is a 'straight Asian male.' I don't get it? My husband thinks it's because we're, (meaning me and the rest of the Asian population), are either angry or crazy—and that's why it's relevant. Oh he's sooo funny. Har. Har. Har.

A Little Big Flower Never Hurt Anyone

I looooove fabric flower accessories. And I especially love them when they are obnoxiously large boldly displayed. Please see examples below:

Here's a personal favorite of mine: Kristen, former SKB Desperate Housewife, is happily displaying all of her handcrafted fabric flowers while singing karaoke. Please note the flower in her hair, the flowers on her necklace, and please don't miss the flower ring. 

So you're probably wondering why I'm taking the time to blog about this. Well, today I was perusing my friends' photos on instagram when I saw the little gem below. My friend, Janae, shared the pic to capture the height of her son, Raymond, (in the background), in comparison to the other children. While he is a tall lad, my eyes couldn't focus on lovely Raymond because they were too busy gawking at the gray hair accessory on the girl's head in front. I added a pink arrow to the photo in case you, for some crazy reason, missed it.

At first I guffawed—I mean, c'mon! That flower is huge! Bigger than her own head! Sure I've got a big flower like that but you don't see it on my head! Needless to say, I had quite a few laughs because of it. And then...I shut my face. Mostly because I realized that I'd probably do that to my kid too. And it wouldn't stop there. Oh no no, my friends. My poor kid(s) would show up to school in top hats and fascinators, and maybe a spectacle, like Mr. Peanut. Therefore...I judge not.

Pinterest

I have found myself an entirely new hobby and it's called pinning. You know...like Charlie Sheen, winning but sort of not...or not at all.

Anyway, I like to bookmark anything and everything I find online that inspires me. (You know---recipes, crafting & sewing tutorials, interesting images/photos, etc.) In addition to that, I often email myself links and ideas. As you can imagine, it's been difficult to keep all of these bookmarks and emails organized. Not to mention that I'm famous for, "Ooooooooh. I totally forgot about that idea! I need to try that soon." Yeah, okay. Until I forget about it again and find the email from 2006 seven years later. What's the solution to this craziness? Pinterest, folks.

What is Pinterest, you ask? The About section on their web site states:


Think of Pinterest as a virtual pinboard — a place where you can create collections of things you love and "follow" collections created by people with great taste. People use Pinterest to collect and share all sorts of things -- wedding inspiration, favorite T-shirts, DJ equipment. You name it, people are pinning it. We know you have great taste in something. Our mission is to make Pinterest the best place for you to share your taste with the world.


Basically, you install "Pin It," onto your bookmarks bar and when you come across something you want to save for later, you click "Pin It," write a little description of what you're pinning, and then designate it to a category of your choice. Done and done. Trust me, it's amazing and user-friendly. Anyone can join Pinterest but it's currently invite-only. I may or may not know a way around this. So if you're interested, leave me a comment. Or, just wait for your own invite---whatever works for you.


Give Pinterest a chance if you're a serial bookmarker like me...but don't say I didn't warn you about it being addicting.
